Every photograph is a 'lie', ...

"Every photograph is a lie, yet within that lie is a mountain of truth."  said by a famous photographer Bryan Peterson. In this post i'm sharing a photograph which is a lie, take a look at it.

I recently bought Photoshop Elements 12, and started playing with photos. Take a look at the left image below, this is an ancient solar clock shot in Jaipur Rajasthan and the image at right shot in our own garden city Bangalore. The sky above the clock is dull and no fun, so did little mixing and gave dramatic effect.

Which one you liked it?

Hello there,

In this post i want to share how i shot a smoking Canadian baseball and smoking Indian green chillies.. take a look at these pictures. To shoot these pictures you don't need fire or real smoke. It is fake smoke... I learnt this trick from PhotoExtremist Evan Sharboneau.

Gears you need:

  • DSLR or any camera with shutter speed control
  • Tripod or anything which can hold your camera study for 8 sec or more..
  • flash light
  • String(s).. and your subject :)

Follow these steps:

  • Mount your DSLR to tripod.
  • Get your subject into focus by half pressing the shutter release button.
  • Put lens's focusing switch to Manual mode to lock the  focus.
  • Put your DSLR camera into manual mode..
  • Set shutter speed to 8 sec or more..
  • Turn off all the light in the room where you are attempting shoot.
  • Hold your flash light with string(s) over your subject, take look at the image..
  • Once you click the shutter release button, turn on the flash light and start move flash light with string in circular motion over the subject. Or any random action..

Panning Photography - Shooting moving subjects

In sports magazine, we often see that, the pictures of fast cars or motorbikes with blur moving background, the technique to shoot the moving subject is referred to Panning Photography.

If you master this technique or get lucky,, you will get WOW images. In this post i am sharing the few images taken using the panning technique, and also i will explain how i took these images.

Focal Length : 55 mm Shutter Speed : 1/15th of sec f stop(Aperture) : f/36 ISO : 200 White Balance : Auto

Shutter Speed: Select a slightly slower shutter speed, depending upon the light and speed of your subject. Put your camera in Shutter Priority mode, let your camera decide the aperture value for you. Start with 1/30 second and then play around with slower ones, again depending upon the light, harsh sunlight and slower shutter speed can spoil your images.

Focusing the subject: Put your camera or lens in Auto Focusing mode, you can let your camera focusing for you, by half pressing the shutter release button.

Continues Shoot: Dial your camera in continues shooting mode, where you can shoot multiple images of subject, out of many, you will find only few great images.

Panning Technique: The idea behind panning photography is that you move your camera(in a horizontal plane) along in time with moving subject. Resulting sharp subject with blurred background.

Focal Length : 55 mm Shutter Speed : 1/20th of sec f stop(Aperture) : f/11 ISO : 100 White Balance : Auto

Left Behind

On the way to Jaisalmer, i found one small old broken rusty pole with rusty chain.  I see very good depth of field in this image.

One tip : smaller the aperture greater the depth of field.

Hello there,

Today i'm sharing few pictures of Airplane Wing taken with iPhone. Two weeks back i visited Rajasthan. From bangalore, when i boarded the plane i kept my SRL bag into the cabin, little far from my seat. Around 7:00 PM in the evening i saw this beautiful line of sunlight between the could and the sky. i clicked this image(first image in this post). After few minutes this view disappeared.

In low light situation iPhone creates lots of noise in the image, i used photoshop to reduce the noise.
